The procedures were as follows: we used both drugs in similar doses, over approximately equal durations, and with the same fluid and nutritional regimen, so that patients who were admitted on odd dates received sulphathiazole while patients who were admitted on even dates received diazil, irrespective of whether treatment was started at once or later.
